Guide for BioShock 2 - Minerva's Den walkthrough (2024)

PLEASE NOTE: This walkthrough was originally written for the North American Xbox 360 version of BioShock 2. Some versions of the game do not contain the Minerva's Den DLC pack. They are as follows:

The Japanese, Korean, and Russian PC versions of the game do not contain this DLC pack.

Minerva's Den is a single player campaign DLC for BioShock 2, and it's quite good. It plays just the same as the original game, with the addition of new enemies, weapons, etc. We'll still be adopting Little Sisters, performing gathers, and such so would you kindly get started playing this DLC pack? This walkthrough will be divided into three sections that correspond with the three separate areas of the game: Minerva's Den, Operations, and The Thinker.

Minerva's Den

After the opening cut scene, follow the only path to the airlock and activate it. Leave the airlock, go left, and grab the audio log from the end of this hallway. Go back, take the other door, and go upstairs. Go through the next room past the weird mannequin lady, and into the main hub area. Turn right and grab an audio log from the hole in the wall, then follow the signs upstairs in the direction of Rapture Central Computing. On the balcony, grab the Ion Laser weapon and activate the lighting controls. Head through the door at the top of the stairs and grab the Security Command Plasmid off the bar counter. Head through the next door straight ahead and turn left. Go to the corner of the hallway and destroy Vacuum Bot 1/10. Facing the Vacuum Bot, turn right and then take the next left. Grab the Spear Gun weapon from this room. Follow your compass down to Porter's office to find that you can't get in.

Turn around, enter the door on the left, and pick up the audio log from the dead guys lap. Follow your compass through some wrecked hallways and rooms and pick up the hack tool you find. Hack the door panel through the hole in the wall to get back out of this room. Head back to Porter's office and hack the door panel through the broken window. Enter Porter's office and hack the safe in the corner to get a Gene Tonic and then grab the punch card from under the desk. Follow your compass back to the door to Operations to find out that you can't get in there either. Search this area for a Big Daddy and kill him to unlock your first achievement:

Adopt his Little Sister and complete the gather here in the hub room. Go to the Archives to find out that...you can't get in. Head across to McClendon Robotics and hack the door panel through the hole in the wall. Enter and grab the Gene Tonic from the round display table. Proceed a little farther and pick up the rivet gun leaning against the sign. Head through the door marked "Demonstration Stage" and complete the gather in the next room, then drop your Little Sister at a convenient vent. Rescue or Harvest - doesn't matter. Head to the back of the stage area and destroy Vacuum Bot 2/10. Head into the flooded area to the right of the stage and pick up the Gene Tonic from the shelf in the back of this area. Leave this place and head through the door marked "Robotics Workshops". Enter and turn right, go through the door next to the Vita-Chamber, turn left into the flooded area and grab the Gene Tonic. Keep taking right turns until you reach a control room. Knock out the metal grate in the back wall and crouch through. Destroy Vacuum Bot 3/10 in this hidden room. Backtrack to the previous room, go upstairs, and activate the crane controls. Go back out and cross the ceiling beam to the room on the other side and grab the Electrobolt Plasmid.

Hunt yourself up a Big Daddy in this area, brutally kill him, and take his Little Sister. Complete the gather here, then have the Little Sister lead you to the second gather and complete it as well. Drop her off at the nearby vent. Now head all the way back to the hub room and go to the Air-Tite Archives. Zap the door switch and head inside, making sure to grab the upgraded Ion Laser weapon lying next to the dead Big Daddy. In the room with the two vending machines, head right and upstairs to New Accounts. In this office area, destroy Vacuum Bot 4/10 then break the glass jar on the desk and grab the ADAM slug. Go back downstairs and head farther into the Archives. Take a left and go downstairs to a flooded basem*nt. Hack the door panel through the hole in the wall and grab the shotgun from the room beyond. Use your Telekinesis to grab the ammo from the other hole in the wall. Go back upstairs and enter the Warehouse. Take the stairs on the right down and hack the door panel through the hole in the ceiling, then go back up stairs and enter. Search the upstairs room at the back of the library-like area and grab the Gravity Well Plasmid. Look for the Big Daddy in this area and murdalate him, taking his Little Sister for yourself. Complete the gather in this room, then head into the watery area next to the library and grab the Gene Tonic there, Have Little Sister lead you to the second gather spot and complete it. Turn her in at a nearby vent and prepare to face Big Sister.

Now you have the Gravity Well Plasmid, but don't leave Minerva's Den just yet. We have a couple things to do first. Go back to the hub room and head back upstairs to Central Computing. At the reception counter, turn right and grab the Gene Tonic from the room at the end. Head back and go to the Corporate Offices. You'll see a door straight ahead with a mag-lock. Fire your Gravity Well Plasmid over the wall through the gap at the top to unlock the door and head inside. Turn right, then right again and destroy Vacuum Bot 5/10 in this small store room. Head to the very last room of this area to grab the launcher weapon then go back to the hub room. Spend some ADAM at the Gatherer's Garden if you want, then follow your compass to the mag-locked door. Use Gravity Well to open it, step into the elevator beyond, and activate it to end this level and unlock the following achievement:

Operations

Go through and ahead into the next large room. Relative to where you entered, head left and enter the Airlock. Grab the upgraded shotgun off the file cabinet straight ahead. Proceed on and hack the panel across the electrified water to cut the power. Enter the door on the right and activate the airlock. Head outside, grab the signal relay, and go back to the airlock. Head back to the hub room, kill the Big Daddy, and steal his Little Sister. Complete two gathers and turn her in at a convenient vent. Go back to the hub room and head across to enter Programming.

Just as you enter, zap the switch on the door to the left. Destroy Vacuum Bot 6/10 in this small room and then grab the upgraded rivet gun next to it. Go back to the previous room and head through the next door. Hack all the security in here. Head right and through the door. Throw a Gravity Well over the window to your right. Head through the next door and around into the room you just unlocked and loot the goodies. Leave and go through the door on the opposite wall and go upstairs. Straight ahead at the top of the stairs you'll see a monitor screen. This is the Spitfire arcade game. It plays a bit like Asteroids, and it's not difficult. Score 9,999 points at Spitfire to unlock the following achievement:

Turn left from the Spitfire game and go through the door to a wooden catwalk. Pick up the machine gun weapon on the left and destroy Vacuum Bot 7/10 at the end on the right. Go back downstairs to Programming and enter the looping hallway on the left side to snag a Gene Tonic. Enter the room at the end of programming and grab the audio log from the desk drawer. Facing the front of the desk, go right, down some stairs and look at the bookshelf. Count the number of books in each of the four groups of books and enter that code in the combination lock under the desk. Enter the room that opens up where the bookshelf was and use the glowing console in here, then use it once more. Head back to the main area of Programming, find yourself a Big Daddy, and kill him. Adopt the Little Sister, complete two gathers, and turn her in.

Head back to the hub room, go through the Core Access door, and proceed through the tunnel. As soon as you exit the tunnel, look left to see a Gatherer's Garden. Take the stairs down past it, turn right, and look left at the end of the room to destroy Vacuum Bot 8/10. Turn right from the Vacuum Bot and pick up the upgraded drill impaling an unfortunate splicer. Hop in the elevator that's right there and take a ride. When you get to the bottom, Vacuum Bot 9/10 will be straight ahead. Head around to the end of this room to grab the Incinerate 2 Plasmid and ride the elevator back up. Head back up past the Gatherer's Garden and go to Computer Core Access to find out that...you can't get in. Leave this place and go to Climate Control. Melt the ice to get in. When you see a flashing red sign that says "Overdrive", turn right and go upstairs. Pass through the door straight ahead and look in the back of this room to find Vacuum Bot 10/10. Destroy it to unlock the following achievement:

Go back out of this place and enter the Turbine room door. Toss a Gravity Well over the window straight ahead and then head inside. Head into the next room and crouch under the duct pipe near a dead Big Daddy to the right to grab the upgraded launcher. Proceed on into the Turbine room and kill the Big Daddy in here. Adopt the Little sister and complete the two gathers. Turn her in at the vent to attract another Big Sister and unlock this achievement:

Proceed to the very back room of Climate Control and hack the door panel through the broken doors. Head around to the other door, go inside, and grab the Gene Tonic on the desk. Leave here and go downstairs to Turbine Maintenance. Head all the way in, melt the ice around the override switch, and use it. Follow your compass all the way back out of here and go to Computer Core Access. Head through the previously frozen door and use the handle on the airlock to end this level, and unlock this achievement:

The Thinker

Head inside and go left down the stairs. Follow these long access hallways all the way around, picking up a Gene Tonic along the way. Grab the audio log lying in the spotlight when you reach the room at the end. Listen to it, then head up into the Computer Core. Head upstairs to the control room and use the code printer. After the cut scene, leave the control room and kill Wahl. When he's dead, search his cooling corpse to get his punch card, his pocket lint, and his chew toy. You'll also unlock this achievement:

Head back up to the control room and reactivate The Thinker. Follow your compass out of this place and into Porter's office. His other office, I guess. Ride the elevator down. Follow your compass through the next lengthy area to find out some things about yourself. Take your time, there are no enemies in this area. When you reach the bathysphere, hope aboard with Tenenbaum and hit the lever to complete the DLC, and unlock the following achievement:
