  “I vividly remember receiving the call from Whole Foods Market to interview for an open Assistant Category Merchant role, and my happiness skyrocketed. That call led to the start of my Whole Foods journey in 2021, covering a wide range of products, from packaged coffee and tea to ambient bread to frozen favorites. I was later promoted to Category Merchant and continue to enjoy learning new things about the products that fill our aisles. In January, I had the opportunity to go to South Korea and visit one of our suppliers; it was a unique experience on all levels. Not only did we go to see their facilities, but we also had the opportunity to travel by boat to learn more about the seaweed they harvest. Understanding how they plant, grow and place it due to the water flow was an enlightening, once-in-a-lifetime experience. As a Merchant, I work to see my partners thrive in our stores. Meeting the people behind the brands and learning more about their culture and sustainability practices gives me an extra layer of connection to my role.   "I started at Whole Foods Market in 2018 as a Customer Service Team Member in Tampa, FL. I was still in my undergraduate program, and during the summer, I would pick up shifts in many departments — but I found my place in the Meat department. Those few shifts turned into my every day! The Meat department challenged me to learn new things constantly, and I discovered ways to advance my product knowledge while also taking home new things to grow my cooking abilities. In 2022, I moved to Chicago as a Team Trainer to pass on the knowledge I learned in the last few years to more Team Members. Soon after, an apprentice position opened, and to challenge myself further, I decided to apply for it. I have always wanted to push myself to try new things, and this was the best opportunity for me to do so. I have been very lucky across the few stores I have been in to learn from many amazing Butchers who enlightened me with their practices, each sharing a unique perspective on the wide variety of products we carry. As I learned to cut meat, I would buy the products and try new recipes with all different kinds of cuts. I figured I could not be a Butcher without knowing how to make a good steak, and now I make one of the best. Being a Butcher has challenged me to step outside of my professional and personal comfort zone and to grow as an individual. I am now training our next Apprentice, sharing the same knowledge and opportunities I gained. If I have learned anything throughout my time as an Apprentice and a Butcher, it’s that anyone can do it. My philanthropy, to always challenge societal norms, pushed me to be a Butcher. I always wanted to act as a role model for women in non-traditional spaces, and this role has given me many opportunities to show young girls that they can do anything they set their minds to. I have had many sweet moments with parents and their young children saying, 'Look, it’s a lady Butcher!'.   "I grew up in a family that loved fishing as a pastime in all waters: off Cape Cod chasing striper and bluefish or in small ponds and creeks for bass and trout. My fascination with seafood was engrained by visiting seafood markets throughout New England and in coastal communities in Europe during my childhood. One of my first summer jobs was pulling lobster pots in New Hampshire, which eventually led me to pulling Sockeye gillnets in Bristol Bay, Alaska. Through all those years, I also worked behind seafood counters selling fish and learning as much as I could about the industry.I started with Whole Foods Market as a Seafood Team Member 17years ago at the flagship store in Austin, TX. I was drawn to Whole Foods because of their strategic focus on sustainable seafood practices, something I wanted to be a part of.   "I have proudly worked at Whole Foods Market for 22 years. As an avid home cook, I was drawn to the incredible food selection at the stores and the Quality Standards they adhered to. I was looking for a career change, and it looked like a fun place to work, so I joined in! I started as a Team Member, stocking shelves in the Grocery department when my Team Leader suggested I interview for an Order Writer position. I eventually moved into the Bakery Department as a Team Leader, and my passion for training began. As a Team Leader, I loved coaching Team Members and helping them explore the different career paths in the company. Eventually, I joined the Learning & Development Team to make training my full-time gig. :) My purpose is to serve and support our Team Members. Every day, I get to go to work and support our Team Members in achieving their career goals. We have development training programs available to Team Members in all positions, and these programs meet Team Members where they are in their learning. It is so rewarding to watch people nourish their ambitions and grow their careers. Getting to be a part of this process is my 'why'. I recently crossed my 40,000 service hour milestone and have been touched by how the company has celebrated my achievement. At every step of my career, I have had incredible leaders who have helped me to grow and develop my skills in the field of Learning & Development.   Gig alert: Designer (Austin-based)You're new school and old school. You'll work on everything digital to printed posters with that lovely smell of fresh ink and varnish. You're uber organized because we work fast and furious juggling multiple projects. You know the difference between communication and decoration (yep, make that price bigger). You're pleasantly distracted by the smell of food (we're constantly snacking here). You love Paul Rand, but don't think you're Paul Rand (only nice people, please). Throughout my career, I received various opportunities to further my growth and developed tools to become a better leader for my team and our guests.
